A good idea, a pain-inducing touch pad
The 'book is a neat idea. The keyboard feels pretty good for a reduced size; the screen is
sharp; speed is not bad.
But I returned it after two days of pain in my hand. This has possibly the worst designed
trackpad ever. Buttons on the side? There is NO natural position your hand will ever be in to
use the buttons, which are on the left and right edges of the trackpad. My hand ached after
two days.
Sure, you could use a mouse with it. But not while you're sitting on the sofa, and most other
places you'll use it. And who wants to have to carry yet more stuff? My whole point was to
reduce the number and weight of stuff I have to carry with me.
Great little laptop!
I was looking for something small and light, but big enough to do touch typing. This was the
best I could find at this price. It is easy to type on and handles most computing jobs that I
would want to do. If I was going to complain about anything, it would be the tinny little
speaker. They could do better on that. I also would have liked an extra GB of memory to
improve performance. However, the large hard drive, big battery, and 1GB of memory more
than make up for that. Also, have you noticed the Dell's right Shift key isn't where it should be...
that would have driven me nuts.
NOTE: This laptop is not for people with poor close-up vision. It works great for me (glasses),
but not so great for my fiance' (eye surgery).
Fantastic Little Machine
Like almost everyone else I really LOVE this machine and have lots of praise. I got the white
to minimize the appearance of smudges. I saw the blue in a store and it shows every finger
print.
I'm very happy with the 6 cell, battery life is excellent and it's worth the extra weight (which is
about 8 more ounces so it weighs just under 3 lbs, still light, but more then the 2.2 lb 3 cell.)
This will be a great companion on LONG plane rides. The photos shown above show the 3
cell version, the 6 cell version sticks out about an inch or so more. It's fine and actually
provides some balance to the computer when you open the screen.
The wifi works perfectly (in my house, at Starbucks and at McDonalds), so did the wired LAN
connection.
Windows XP is a dream, unlike the SLUGGISH and incompatible with everything older then it
Vista. Start up and Shut down is fast. The computer stays relatively cool too, so much cooler
then all of my other notebooks.
The only negatives... very little minor things...
-The keyboard is a little small, but very managable and the touch pad just takes a little getting
used it. The touch pad is actually quite powerful and you can left click (by tapping twice) and
even scroll right on it. All the options are detailed under Control Panel. You could always buy
a mouse Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black) or Logitech V450
Nano Cordless Mouse- Black or Logitech V220 Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks

-There is no Compact Flash reader built in, but it does have readers for almost every other
card format built it.
-It doesn't have a CD/DVD reader/writer, but I purchased a Apricorn EZ Writer Dual Layer DVD
+/-R/RW Slim Line Combo which works off of USB power and it works great with this

- It doesn't come with a RESTORE disk, the restore is built into the hard drive... don't know
what I'll do if the hard drive ever fails (I actually have an email into Acer support and will
update this review when I get a reply.)
- It doesn't come with a slip case. (The 3 cell version from the store comes with a slip case.)
You can easily fix that by purchasing a 9" or 10" DVD player case. XDS-9 Neoprene DVD
Player Case (Blue) I had an old one on hand (slightly different model) which worked great.
- Screen size is small. It's a little difficult to read the fine print with old eyes, but overall it's
VERY usable. If you need to in an office environment, you could hook up a VGA cable to a
larger monitor and a USB keyboard to the Aspire One. Great to have that option should you
decide to make this your only computer...
I've run MS Office, Corel X4, Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and even Adobe CS3 Photoshop and it
works fine, no noticable delay as opposed to my full sized Vista computer. (It can't run Adobe
Illustrator or Adobe In Design due to the small screen limitation, but so what! I was just
testing to see what would happen and I'm fine with it...)
It's an amazing machine at an amazing price and size. Great portability for traveling or just
moving from room to room in your house! Highly recommend it!

ACER eManagement software
This laptop is outstanding in functionality and cost. Just dont touch the green button and
enter the 'E'mpowering technology. Stay away from it and stay away from anything that you
need to enter passwords on this laptop. The ACER software will lead you to think your laptop
will not be immune unless you do. If you do enter a password the laptop will be inaccessable
to even you and you will have to send it in to get repaired. The warranty does not cover you
forgetting a password, even though you typed it in and retyped it in. You will have to send it
back on your own dime and pay to get it fixed. Don't look for a good warranty here. I had mine
less than a month when this happened to me, actually less than 2 weeks.
I give the Laptop 5 thumbs, Acer warranty and support negative thumbs.
Works very well
If you are looking for a bargain priced computer to use for some on-line surfing and as a
word processor, or to keep your digital documents/pictures on, this is the one. Quick bootup,
no hassles at all setting it up, and the keyboard and the touch pad are quite user friendly (i.e.
fingers dont easily slide off the keys; touchpad not too sensitive, etc). For advanced
computing, it would do you no good, but for $400 a fantastic bargain.

market. This simplified Linux operated netbook is a charm and packs in sufficient features to

This netbook is small and sleek but the performance is truly appealing.
Design
The build up of the netbook is sturdy and the finishing is leveled. Thy keyboard is sufficiently
large and better than other netbooks available in the market. The touch pad mouse has the
click buttons on the sides. This is unique and will take time in getting used to if you have
been a regular user of the touch pad on a standard laptop. It has an 8.9-inch LCD display

handy in case of such small sized netbooks. It weighs less than a kilo, which makes it
extremely portable to carry around.

There are no glitches in performing most of the tasks thrown at it. It has an 8 GB flash

The user interface is the simplified version of Linux operating system. It will take time for the

Cons
A big concern might be the touch pad mouse buttons. They are placed on the sides which

popular media file formats which again will be a concern for many and take need extra effort
of installing them.
Conclusion
This Acer Laptops are light, cheap and works fast. It will be a true winner for those looking
out at a replacement of bulky laptops and would want a portable machine for basic

The Acer TravelMate 4230 is a great solution for those people who are looking for a stylish,
powerful and mobile laptop for a very affordable price. I have been using this model of a
laptop for a year already. I can say only positive things about this model of a laptop.
First of all, I liked this laptop for its stylish look. The developers managed to create a very
stylish things and I am sure that many customers will agree with me. Then I tried to type on
the keyboard and I liked it. The keys are very comfortable. The Acer laptop has a very
sensitive touchpad, however, I do not use it at all, that is why, I attached a mouse.
I also liked the screen. I asked a shop assistant to play a movie or cartoon in order to
demonstrate the colors and brightness of the screen. I was really impressed by the colors. A
15.4 inch screen is great and it is perfect for work. The viewing angle of the Acer screen is

A good idea, a pain-inducing touch pad
The 'book is a neat idea. The keyboard feels pretty good for a reduced size; the screen is
sharp; speed is not bad.
But I returned it after two days of pain in my hand. This has possibly the worst designed
trackpad ever. Buttons on the side? There is NO natural position your hand will ever be in to
use the buttons, which are on the left and right edges of the trackpad. My hand ached after
two days.
Sure, you could use a mouse with it. But not while you're sitting on the sofa, and most other
places you'll use it. And who wants to have to carry yet more stuff? My whole point was to
reduce the number and weight of stuff I have to carry with me.
Great little laptop!
I was looking for something small and light, but big enough to do touch typing. This was the
best I could find at this price. It is easy to type on and handles most computing jobs that I
would want to do. If I was going to complain about anything, it would be the tinny little
speaker. They could do better on that. I also would have liked an extra GB of memory to
improve performance. However, the large hard drive, big battery, and 1GB of memory more
than make up for that. Also, have you noticed the Dell's right Shift key isn't where it should be...
that would have driven me nuts.
NOTE: This laptop is not for people with poor close-up vision. It works great for me (glasses),
but not so great for my fiance' (eye surgery).
Fantastic Little Machine
Like almost everyone else I really LOVE this machine and have lots of praise. I got the white
to minimize the appearance of smudges. I saw the blue in a store and it shows every finger
print.
I'm very happy with the 6 cell, battery life is excellent and it's worth the extra weight (which is
about 8 more ounces so it weighs just under 3 lbs, still light, but more then the 2.2 lb 3 cell.)
This will be a great companion on LONG plane rides. The photos shown above show the 3
cell version, the 6 cell version sticks out about an inch or so more. It's fine and actually
provides some balance to the computer when you open the screen.
The wifi works perfectly (in my house, at Starbucks and at McDonalds), so did the wired LAN
connection.
Windows XP is a dream, unlike the SLUGGISH and incompatible with everything older then it
Vista. Start up and Shut down is fast. The computer stays relatively cool too, so much cooler
then all of my other notebooks.
The only negatives... very little minor things...
-The keyboard is a little small, but very managable and the touch pad just takes a little getting
used it. The touch pad is actually quite powerful and you can left click (by tapping twice) and
even scroll right on it. All the options are detailed under Control Panel. You could always buy
a mouse Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black) or Logitech V450
Nano Cordless Mouse- Black or Logitech V220 Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks

-There is no Compact Flash reader built in, but it does have readers for almost every other
card format built it.
-It doesn't have a CD/DVD reader/writer, but I purchased a Apricorn EZ Writer Dual Layer DVD
+/-R/RW Slim Line Combo which works off of USB power and it works great with this

- It doesn't come with a RESTORE disk, the restore is built into the hard drive... don't know
what I'll do if the hard drive ever fails (I actually have an email into Acer support and will

- It doesn't come with a slip case. (The 3 cell version from the store comes with a slip case.)
You can easily fix that by purchasing a 9" or 10" DVD player case. XDS-9 Neoprene DVD
Player Case (Blue) I had an old one on hand (slightly different model) which worked great.
- Screen size is small. It's a little difficult to read the fine print with old eyes, but overall it's
VERY usable. If you need to in an office environment, you could hook up a VGA cable to a
larger monitor and a USB keyboard to the Aspire One. Great to have that option should you
decide to make this your only computer...
I've run MS Office, Corel X4, Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and even Adobe CS3 Photoshop and it
works fine, no noticable delay as opposed to my full sized Vista computer. (It can't run Adobe
Illustrator or Adobe In Design due to the small screen limitation, but so what! I was just
testing to see what would happen and I'm fine with it...)
It's an amazing machine at an amazing price and size. Great portability for traveling or just
moving from room to room in your house! Highly recommend it!

ACER eManagement software
This laptop is outstanding in functionality and cost. Just dont touch the green button and
enter the 'E'mpowering technology. Stay away from it and stay away from anything that you
need to enter passwords on this laptop. The ACER software will lead you to think your laptop
will not be immune unless you do. If you do enter a password the laptop will be inaccessable
to even you and you will have to send it in to get repaired. The warranty does not cover you
forgetting a password, even though you typed it in and retyped it in. You will have to send it
back on your own dime and pay to get it fixed. Don't look for a good warranty here. I had mine
less than a month when this happened to me, actually less than 2 weeks.
I give the Laptop 5 thumbs, Acer warranty and support negative thumbs.
Works very well
If you are looking for a bargain priced computer to use for some on-line surfing and as a
word processor, or to keep your digital documents/pictures on, this is the one. Quick bootup,
no hassles at all setting it up, and the keyboard and the touch pad are quite user friendly (i.e.
fingers dont easily slide off the keys; touchpad not too sensitive, etc). For advanced
computing, it would do you no good, but for $400 a fantastic bargain.

The Acer TravelMate 4230 is a great solution for those people who are looking for a stylish,
powerful and mobile laptop for a very affordable price. I have been using this model of a
laptop for a year already. I can say only positive things about this model of a laptop.
First of all, I liked this laptop for its stylish look. The developers managed to create a very
stylish things and I am sure that many customers will agree with me. Then I tried to type on
the keyboard and I liked it. The keys are very comfortable. The Acer laptop has a very
sensitive touchpad, however, I do not use it at all, that is why, I attached a mouse.
